Description

Teodora, the beautiful Italian name meaning ‘a gift from God’. It is also the name of our muse, Teodora di Bisanzio - and a gift she was to the women of the Eastern Roman Empire. It was Teodora, wife of Emperor Justinian in 527, who as a chief advisor was given equal dignity and decision making power - irrespective of the fact that she was a woman. In fact, it was during his reign and their marriage that many of the first laws came into effect that placed value and protection on women in their generation. Perhaps it was her eye for design, her power and her distinct care for her fellow female that inspired what is undoubtedly one of our favourite and most popular pieces of the La Donna collection.
