Liliana, this distinctly feminine name means ‘pure as a Lily’. A beautiful way to describe Liliana Segre, a woman whose lovely and impenetrable spirit has inspired many young women. Liliana is an Italian national who was deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp along with her Jewish family. The only Holocaust survivor amongst her relatives, she returned to Milan when she was released at the end of the war. It was decades later that she began to share her experiences openly in high schools around the country, encouraging people to put aside their prejudices and learn about the history of their fellow citizens.
