Letizia is a name that means joyful. And yet the life of Letizia Battaglia, an Italian photographer and photojournalist often was anything but. Her photos famously documented a wide spectrum of Sicilian life - with a particular eye for photographing the largest Mafia families in the business. A documentary film based on her life, ‘Shooting the Mafia', was released in 2019 and chronicled the many death threats she received for her bold, meaningful, and often dangerous work.
