The name Gabriella means ‘devoted to God’. Perhaps a reason why it was such a popular name amongst church-going Italians in the 18th and 19th centuries. Gabriella Tucci was an Italian operatic soprano who performed at notable opera houses worldwide. She appeared at the Metropolitan Opera in 11 Verdi roles across 13 seasons, including Violetta in La Traviata and Desdemona in Otello. Her sultry voice and moody soprano was praised by critics the world over for its clarity of tone and for the zeal with which she approached every performance.
